Awards All-Around
First off, congrats to Spencer Larsen for being voted Pac 10 Defensive Player of the Week. In the upset of Oregon, Spencer made 16 stops, 12 of which were solo tackles, and three for a loss. Include 1 sack and a forced fumble and Larsen brought in his first Pac-10 POW of his career. Next on the list is the big winner, Antoine Cason. Along with Larsen, Cason received the Pac-10 Special Teams Player of the Week, after his 56 yard punt return to the house (ESPN Play of the Day). Cason also was voted National Defensive Player of the Week by The Walter Camp Football Foundation after his performance of 7 solo tackles, 5 broken up passes, and an interception returned 42 yards for a TD. And if that was not enough for the Chuck Bednarik and Ronnie Lott Awards semifinalist, Antoine has made the final cut for the Jim Thorpe award, given to the nation's best college defensive back. The other finalists are James Silva of Boston College and Craig Steltz of LSU. Congratulations Antoine!! Note: Votes for finalists occured before Thursday Night's Game... one more big showing on ESPN by Cason would make the award a basic lock you would think. Rau Raur!! |
