IDPA newbie

Hello,
I've been thinking of starting IDPA. Just a quick question, would the IDPA instruction and Practice or IDPA Basic be the best first event to attend? On the subject of the training and practice, what time does that run? The calendar of events just says 06 FEB 08. Thanks in advance.

Re: IDPA newbie

Brian,
The short answer is yes. The best way would probably be to come watch a basic or Thursday match (sometimes Thursday is pretty basic) so you can see what it's all about. By all means bring your gear in case you want to shoot. You'll need pouch(s) for 2 mags, a holster & at least 3 mags. No crossdraw, SOB or shoulder holsters allowed for safety reasons. Your gun must be at least a 9mm. You'll need around 75 rounds minimum.

If you shoot a revolver bring 2 speed loaders with pouches. Ask a lot of questions & go on the IDPA website & have a peep at the rulebook etc. if you like. We've got a very helpful group of people here and you'll fit right in. After you start would be the best time to come to the instruction night because having attended a match 1st you'll have a lot better idea what we're doing. When we have them they are the 1st Wed. of the month.

Re: IDPA newbie

Mike,
Thanks for the information. Looks like I'll be out there on the 20th for the Basic. I may have even talked a friend into joining for the night, we'll see.
I have started reading the IDPA rulebook, about 1/2 way through. I'll make sure I'm finished before going out on the 20th.
