What gear r u using?

'm trying to figure out what kind of sax to buy. Ive been playing for a few years, and would like to take this a little more seriously. I play alto and tenor, so feedback on both would be appreciated. I'll keep checking back here untill I figure out what direction to go in. Here are some of my thoughts at this point...
Selmer - new or vintage?
Yamaha pro
Other brands - are they reliable?
New or used?

Thanks people!

Re: What gear r u using?

Hi MR. Good to meet you.

I use a vintage Selmer Mk VI Tenor, but I don't neccessarily recommend this as your ideal purchase. Hopefully you life in a big city with lots of music stores to choose from. If you buy used, get it inspected by a repair tech. This ussualy costs around 20 to 50 bucks, and is well worth it. See if you can have the store do a quick appraisal if the seller is independant. If your playing as a hobby, go with an intermediate to pro horn. I never recommend begginer horns, as they are ussualy so crappy that they make playing no fun. So do horns with hidden air leaks or fauly key mechanisms, so get a tune up in you buy used.

Anyways, good brands are: Selmer, Keiwerth, Yamaha, Yanigasawa, and a couple other lesser known ones. Vintage horns include Conn 10M, King Super 20, Selmer MK VI's, and that's about it again.

Try looking for used pro horns that are made at least after 1980. Also never buy a Mark seven unless yu play it and really like it and get it for a great deal.

Hope this helps.
