Scandi serial number check and cool stuff

Well, my Scandi just arrived, and I'm pretty chuffed. I've been on the lookout for one for years and am not disappointed. Needs new strings/a good clean, but I like the sound and feel of it already.
Sooo, the serial number is: 53 896111 ... which means this is rare, a prototype, **** cool? Or were all late Hagstroms prefixed 53?

Cool stuff:
It's got Schaller tuners, not Hagstrom branded Schallers. They say 'Made in W. Germany'.
It's natural finish. The front has yellowed more than the back. The back is gorgeous, almost like pale pine.
The headstock doesn't say Scandi- this means it's a first run guitar... 1976?
The tailpiece is a normal Hagstrom stop tailpiece, not the fancy one with separate string anchors.
The wiring may or may not be original- this one has 3 vols and one tone, not the correct config, which oddly seems less useful.

I'll know more when I take it apart and clean it!

Re: Scandi serial number check and cool stuff

So it was you who won/bought it.
I made an offer at the end of the auction...

Your Scandi is from the first run of them, when they was called "HIII Scandi". You have number 111 of a 207 serie, made 1976.

Take care of it.

Re: Scandi serial number check and cool stuff

Hagstrom had to ad the 53 prefix due to some marketing/legal mumbo jumbo
The schems show the Scandi's to have three tone knobs and one master volume. That is an odd config.

Re: Scandi serial number check and cool stuff

Ha, I've just noticed that David's Scandi is number 112 from the same batch. Mine has yellowed on the front a fair bit more, but is still in great condition. I'm quite sure the pots have been replaced and wiring swapped about to make 3 vols, 1 tone. I've taken pics of under the pickguard and will post them later. Did you know those lightswitches are rated at 125 Volts? Big heavy-duty things. Crazy.

Here's a detailed set of pics of the insides of the Scandi. What do people think of these pots... any chance they're original?
