Message:   Teseo & Surtitles

Firstly can I say how much I appreciated the use of the original word book and the approach taken to the surtitles. The synthesis of the basic mood of each aria was practical and sensible. How much better than trying to follow all the words of the whole aria!

Whilst I appreciated the singing I was a little disappointed with the staging and production. Especially after seeing the Haydn the following evening. I felt that it was all too static - singers were often rooted to the spot when singing or looking extremely awkward with shuffled moves. Derek Lee Ragin was the exception. I realise that Handel's da capo arias are taxing and movement on stage will be limited, Nevertheless I thank ETO for bringing Teseo -as it contains such marvellous music.

Haydn - Country Matters

The production was absolutely delightful and a joy to watch. Witty and imaginative - More please!

P.S. A pity that it was not a full house. Attendance was unexpectedly poor.
