BIG STRIPER Tournament a BIG success
This year we are introducing a new concept called the BIG STRIPER tournament where a team can enter multiple times or just once. Each entry is $25 and if a team enter more than once they can actually win multiple places. At the Cherokee Members Reunion tournament we had a total field of 78 entries in the tournament with a 100% payback planned. However, Live System's sponsored the event and added to the 1st place payout to bring the prize up to an even $1,000 CASH. This took the payout from 100% up to approximately 110%. As more sponsors come on board we expect better and better programs for our members. Remember that Hartwell is next on January 5, 2008. Hope to see you with a BIG STRIPER there!

First is the 2-Fish Team tournaments where everyone earns points and the top-50 teams receive a free entry to the 2008 National Championship. We are also introducing the BIG STRIPER TOURNAMENT. This is a 1-fish tournament with a payout to the largest 10-striped bass (based on 100-tickets sold) weighed in during the tournament.

BAIT FISH- Can you tell one from another?
One of the most important aspects of striped bass fishing is using live bait. But what bait is more effective and how can you tell them apart? If you are unsure of your knowledge of the various types of live bait, or if you just want a refresher course, please join us for our first of several articles on Baitfish. We plan to add to this Bait Fish series to make it the best source of information on bait fish you will find anywhere. Remember that Associate Level membership is free! Pass this eNewsletter around to you fishing friends and help us build this program for everyone. We have expanded the information on the alwife and the Blueback Herring.

A look back at last month's eNewsletter:
A Family Affair, Let's keep it that way!
By Warren Turner, President SBCC Board of Directors

In 1988 I started striped bass fishing and joined a striper club in SC called the Greenville Striper Kings. The thing that impressed me most was the family involvement that I witnessed. As a matter of fact, one of the most influential people that I met never even knew how much impact he and his wife had on me and striped bass fishing. A couple weeks later I was fishing in my first striped bass tournament and saw Bill (Butch) and Teresa Barber fishing together, and the idea of fishing competitively with my family stuck in my heart.

CONSERVATION CORNER:

Virginia: A lot of things are going on with the striped bass fishery. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fish (VDGIF) just implimented new size and creel limits effective last year on Kerr Reservoir and Smith Mountain Lake. The programs on each lake were designed for different reasons and to obtain different results. On Smith Mountain Lake the desire is to produce more trophy status striped bass while on Kerr Reservoir the purpose was to add more brood age fish into this natural reproducing fishery. We will watch to see what results they gain.

Tennessee: Unfortunately, Lake Cherokee has endured what I am afraid will be reported to be a major fish kill. At the present time we do not have the facts and will be searching for the truth and hope to be a part of ensuring that it never happens again. We will keep you posted!

Arkansas: We hear that the push by the largemouth fishermen around Ouachita are still trying to stop the stocking of striped bass in Arkansas. One recent development is a new regulation to prevent transporting wild bait from one body of water to another. While this may have a short term negative effect on the local striped bass fishermen, it may be necessiary to prevent to spread of disease and exoctic species. We will keep ou posted!

South Carolina: A new movement by the SC Department of Natural Resources has the people with a vested interest in the striped bass fishery working on an improvement advisory committee to recommend changes that need to be taken to improve the SC striped Bass fishery. The program is sponsored by the SCDNR and is operating as a facilitated working group. The facilitator is experienced in the art of group faciliting and is a professor at Clemson University.

Georgia: A CORRECTION TO LAST MONTHS eNewsletter. The South Lanier Striper Club was mistakenly left off of the list of those Georgia clubs working to improve the striped bass fishery in Georgia. We expect improvement in the production ability of the GA DNR to produce striped bass because of the support given by the Appalachian Striper Club, Clarks Hill Striper Club, and the North Georgia Striper Club. The groups put their money together and bought equipment needed by the hatchery for the production of striped bass. On the negative side is the water conditions of Lanier and other southern lakes. Drought conditions have worsened and that will not be goos news to striped bass landlocked in our reservoirs.

If you have any news we need to report about your striper club and the local striped bass fishery, let us know at SCStriper1@aol.com and we will get the word out.

Re: Free monthly Striped Bass eNewsletter

I just wanted to say that Warren and Pam are real good people. I'm happy to see that they are back putting on tournaments. For those of you who don't know the Turners, I can tell you that they always have the welfare of the fisherman and the fish in mind. I have known them for 5 years and have always had great experiences fishing their tournaments. They truly love striped bass and striped bass fisherman. Thanks to them, I have fished dozens of lakes that I otherwise would never know, and had a ball doing it.
Thanks Warren and Pam.
