Jan. 6 Report

Launched at Occ this morning around 6:15 AM. Caught some bait in Sandy Creek and some at the new bridge pillars. Bought some bass minnows and a couple jumbos. Water at Occ is stained, coffee with light cream color; no birds working the area or for that matter any other area. Tried around the old bridge to around bouy #17...no birds no bites, tried Butchers, Eastland, then back to Occ. Ended up with nada; no misses, no hits, no nothing...not even a cat. The only excitment for the day was a snag that happened in that half awake time around 2:00 PM. Talked to two other striper fishermen and a couple of crappie fishermen....nada also. Left the lake at 3:30 PM. Anyone have any luck on Sunday?

Re: Jan. 6 Report

Try mill creek with small bait or small minnows, don't use the jumbo bass minnows they don't seem to work as good as small shad or small minnows, also use 10lb or 8lb line with a split shot or freeline ! SLOWWWW! It works.

Re: Jan. 6 Report

Ol Mako - thanks for the advise. We had 8 rods out with bass minnows, jumbo minnows, one 10 shad, and the rest with 4-5 inch shad at one time and nothing. Due to the wind, it was hard to go really slow at times, but nothing seemed to work. All in all, it was still nice to be on the water; figured the bite was shut off in those areas.
