Need advice

Looking to make a move to a pontoon this year and was wondering if anyone has set one up for striper fishing. What pros and cons are there? As we are starting to carry more folks/kids to the lake, we need some room and my gang seems to think a pontoon is the way to go. Thinking around a 22' range. Any thoughts; trolling motor size, bad idea/good idea, moves like a kite in the wind......need some input. We fish for most species in the summer, but striper fish in the cool months. Thanks.

Re: Need advice

My $0.02 since I have a 22' er.

Slow... so don't expect to get up and go to chase birds (although I've done it in mine). Incredibly stable. You can put a bunch of rods out.

I would say you will need 65 lb. TM.

Have you thought about a deck boat? All the benefits of the space of a pontoon plus the handling of a planing hull. I fished with a guide on Smith Mountain who used one.

In the Summer they are an outdoor living room. I used to go out after work and watch the sunset. Also they are a great rendezvous point if you have a couple of groups (and another boat) so one group can ski or tube, then switch off and another group goes.

I got mine from Scott at the Marina and while I don't get to use it as much since I left Clarksville, I wouldn't trade it.

Good luck.

Re: Need advice

Thanks Roe. Knowing there are pros and cons to all boats, I appreciate your input. I need an all around type of boat and am weighing all the options. I've looked at he decks, but have never been on one and am finding that all the manufacturers very proud $$ of their products and want the biggest bang for the buck. Other comments welcome.

Re: Need advice

I used a pontoon at one time and it worked out fine. You should check out this Fisher Pontoon at ;
