Nutbush?

Do any stripers make a false run up the Creek? I was curious if any of the stocked fish may not know better and try to run up that arm. I know we have caught few below Hyco dam that seemed to have been confused. Is it water flow, smell,or some innate homing sense that drives the fish into where they go?

Re: Nutbush?

There are always fish that never leave the lake in the spring since you can get word of folks catching them all through April and May in the lake (maybe not many though). I've even read articles where Biologist determined that not all of natural mature saltwater stripers go into the rivers every spring. However the stocked fish were born from mothers who went up the river to Brookneal where the VDGIF shocked up the brood fish (so its in their blood to migrate into the rivers). So my belief is that most stocked and natural fish go up the Dan and Stanton this time of year, but I believe some stocked and natural fish stay in the lake year round.
