At the Udbodhan, during her last illness, she said to a disciple: ‘Even after my death, do you think I shall have respite until every one of those for whom I have assumed responsibility has been liberated? Since I have taken charge of their good and evil, I must always remain with them. Is it a joke to give initiation? What a heavy responsibility the teacher assumes! How much worry he suffers! Can you understand everything? If you did, my burden would have been considerably lightened. Sri Ramakrishna is playing his game with different people in different ways. I have to bear the brunt of it. I simply cannot let down those whom I have accepted as my own.’
