Logline: A man descends into a world of fantasy when he reunites with his old love.
In theosophy and anthroposophy, the Akashic Chronicle is described as a compendium of all human events, thoughts, words, emotions, and intent ever to have occurred in the past, present, or future. They are believed by theosophists to be encoded in a non-physical plane of existence known as the etheric plane. There are anecdotal accounts but there is no scientific evidence for the existence of the Akashic records.
It is from this idea that the concept the movie READING ROOM is born.
READING ROOM is a story totally immersed in fantasy. It follows a lawyer, MICHAEL, as his past love MARA attempts to convince him that the only barrier to their love is the real world. Through smoking the pages of an ancient mythical book (a book of the Akashic records), she takes him on a journey to the reading room. A library that holds all the past lives of both of their souls. They travel to their first lives—in the time of ancient Africa—only to realize that their romance has always ended in betrayal. MARA convinces MICHAEL that escape from the library is their only option. As they delve deeper into fantasy, the couple attempts to leave their known world. MARA leaves to the realm of the fanatical in the end, as MICHAEL is forced to stay. His doubts about their dreams deny him access to their love and he is forced to remain in the world. A world of obscurity. His own self-made hell.
