I am seeking representation for my feature script, Pointed Toes.
I live in Phoenix, I have produced two stage plays, two short films, and recently won first place in The Artist of Promise competition at Scottsdale School of Film and Theatre. My play, Diamonds In The Waiting Room, received a favorable review from the late John Singleton in 2017. It was also an official selection of the Atlanta Black Theatre Festival in 2020. I write for the screen and the stage.
Genre: Drama/BPOC
Length: Approximately 140 pages
Logline: When a devout ballerina books the gig of a lifetime she secretly pursues a secular dance career against her militant father's will.
Pitch: Imagine a black ballerina, innocent and gifted, raised by a militant father that demands perfection while she quietly yearns for her unknown mother. Brought up to live a life without sin and pursue classical dance like her father, she conspires with her manager-cousin and secretly books a gig touring with a “worldly” pop star. Then, while struggling to be forthcoming she discovers that her father is gay. And it all builds to the moment when she baits him into an explosive argument that leads to her narrowly escaping to Hollywood. But before the two can reconcile--he dies. And now her manager-cousin confesses to being her absent mother.
My distant relationship with my father inspired me to write this piece. Pointed Toes is an exaggerated version of what I’ve always wanted.
Thank you,
