When the police are unable to solve the murder of his close friends' son, retired homicide Detective George Renda dismisses the misgivings of his spirited fiancée, Lena Morgan, and decides to investigate the crime personally. After returning to Brooklyn, George reunites with his former partner, recruits a street hustler and uses unconventional methods to catch the killer. But, instead of the usual happy ending, George soon discovers that he has inadvertently disrupted the operation of a nationwide murder for hire organization, managed by people who conceal their identities from their clients and employees.
