Eddie Hazel joins Parliament/Funkadelics band and becomes dependent on alcohol and drugs. He meets Gina Wilson and helps her escapes an abusive boyfriend that hunts them down and destroys their chances of being together.

Starchild, A galactic traveler gets stranded on earth. He lands in Detroit, Michigan in the year 1967, encounters members of a doo-wop group called the Parliaments and introduces them to Cosmic Funk. Cholly, a member of the Parliments, befriends with Starchild, and begins an intergalactic journey to meet Dr. Funkenstein and become a Funkateer.

Meanwhile on Earth, guitarist Eddie Hazel remains with the Parlaments and become the Parliament/Funkadelic music group. Eddie meets Gina Wilson and tries to concentrate more on music than the drugs he is using. Eddie’s drug abuse overshadows his artistic guitar playing, and he spirals downward and is released from the group.

When Eddie met Gina he helped her escape from Leon, an abusive boyfriend and music manager. Seeking revenge for Gina leaving him, Leon searches for Eddie and Gina. Starchild returns Cholly to Earth and Cholly begins to look for Eddie. The villainous galactic war lord Sir Nose de void of Funk tracks Starchild and Cholly to Earth.
