1958 Academy Awards/Bob Hope's Comments

I recently watched a tape I have of Bob Hope's 100th
birthday celebration. Several clips were shown of
Bob Hope's various moments as host of the Academy Awards telecasts. One of the clips from the 1958 awards referenced the Leading Actress nominees who were:

Susan Hayward as Barbara Graham in "I WANT TO LIVE!"
Deborah Kerr as Sibyl Railton-Bell in "SEPARATE TABLES"
Shirley MacLaine as Ginny Moorhead in "SOME CAME RUNNING"
Rosalind Russell as Auntie Mame Dennis in "AUNTIE MAME"
Elizabeth Taylor as Maggie Pollitt in "CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF"

Here is some Hope humor regarding these nominees:

"Shirley MacLaine was nominated as a lady of easy virtue--Elizabeth Taylor played a frustrated cat--Deborah Kerr played a neurotic that learned about sex--and Roz Russell played a screwball spinster--and Susan Hayward played a narcotic addict
who went to the gas chamber.....put 'em all together and they spell mother.."
