Smash Up: The Story of A Woman 1947

I recently saw ‘Smash Up: The Story of a Woman’ . I heard the following lines spoken by the character played by Susan: ‘to lie in bed and sleep not, to wait for somebody who never comes and love somebody who doesn’t’ love in return’ I’m paraphrasing what I heard and was wondering if anyone could tell me the exact lines or tell me where I might find them.

Thank you for your time!

Best wishes

Hi Joseph

I think I know those three lines to which you refer, but just in case I am wrong, fear not, there are dedicated Susan Hayward gurus on this message board who absolutely WILL know. Here is my recollection.
"To lie in bed and sleep not,
To wait for the one who comes not,
To try to please and please not".

I recall it very closely to yours, Kerry, as:

To lie in bed and sleep not;
To wait for one who comes not;
To try to please and please not.

I also remember another memorable line of Susan's in this film:

Did you ever sit, day after day, night after night, staring at your hands?
