June 30th

On Susan's Birthday

Ninety-five years ago today
a future star had come our way
And though nobody knew it then
a relationship would soon begin.

With every film she raised the bar
on her way to becoming a star
In Smash-Up, Heart, Song, Cry and Live
the Academy saw the talent she'd give.

We lost that talent much too soon
It still is like an open wound
We miss the blend of strength and sass
that put her in a special class.

We'll celebrate her life each year
and won't forget her, never fear
Because her films are still around
there are always new fans to be found.

They will discover what we all love
and see that Susan was a step above
It takes a special kind of miss
to rate poems written for her like this.

Can you believe Susan would have been 95? We have all loved her for so long and will go on doing so.
