Prayer of a Devotee

Prayer of a Devotee

Whatever comes comes through you; whatever disappears disappears because of you.
Though I am aware of this truth, I am not remaining tranquil.
Instead, my mind, jumping around as ‘I’, feels alternately happy and miserable.
Even if I lose a trifling object, there is no limit to the misery my mind experiences.
O Divine Mother, please shower your grace on me so that ideas of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ are rooted out completely.

I do not know how this delusion of saying,
‘This is my native place; this is my property; these are my relatives,’ has arisen.
If I lose something that belongs to me, I become sad and miserable.
Dividing up the world like this, experiencing happiness and misery —
These are only the workings of the mind.
This powerful mind is not under my control.
O Divine Mother, when will it come under my sway?

Consciousness does not know its real nature because of the wonderful power of maya.
The world and thoughts arise and subside in Consciousness through this same wonderful power.
O Divine Mother, since this indescribable maya is only a power residing in Consciousness,
everything is Consciousness alone.

A true devotee believes that his Sadguru’s blessed grace alone is his support.
Such a devotee offers his Sadguru his body, his possessions, and his soul.
He casts all his burdens at the feet of the Master and walks on the way shown by the Sadguru.
O Divine Mother, since this is so, can one like me be called a devotee?

(Some readers may have had trouble reading Vriju's post, so I have reposted it using "plain text" quotation marks.)
