Re: celebrating Mother's Birthday

Namaste Jayanti and other friends, A devotee could celebrate the Holy Mother's Birthday, by volunteering a few hours of one's precious time, at the local hospital, food bank or homeless shelter. This activity will bring a wonderful feeling to the participant, besides the opportunity of meeting some great people.

If we happen to reside in a city, such as Toronto, there are volunteering opportunities, directly connected with the Vedanta Society: "Recently, the Society entered an innovative arrangement whereby members can render volunteer service at West Park Hospital, which is situated adjacent to the new building. The purpose of this project is to put into action Swami Vivekananda's ideal of serving God in man."

Re: Re: celebrating Mother's Birthday

I think the idea of doing Seva is excellent and perhaps the true spirit in which Mother lived Her life. I was thinking more in terms of something here in the courtyard like Jayanti suggested. Maybe the initial incident that drew us towards the Mother or a quote which has the most meaning for us. Something more personal.

Re: Re: Re: celebrating Mother's Birthday

Namaste Pantosh, Mother's Courtyard is pleasantly 'awash' with touching mentions of her birthday. Even those of us, who are unable to leave their premises, due to various causes and/or circumstances; there are ways to volunteer from home, using the computer and the telephone. I totally agree with your comment of Seva, being the true spirit in which the Consort of Sri Sri Ramakrishna Parmahamsadeva lived her life.

Is there a reason not to do both? We might even begin a new thread for sharing our ideas for offer service to the divine in others.
