Ma Sarada: The Imperishable Fragrance

Born in the holy land of Jayrambati,

In a family of true divinity,

Blessed was the tinsel Bengal,

Least aware that it bore the feet before which bowed all.

Tender Sarada, so simple and innocent,

Before whom even the Lord submitted, least hesitant,

Such was the power of that mere child,

Whom, now, we consider the mother of all, even of the wild.

Ma Sarada was the strength of the Lord.

It was upon her dedication and love for God,

That Thakur could journey the path of the Omnipresent's realisation,

The ultimate goal of man's aspiration.

Thakur worshipped her with devotion

And so did his followers, without any vacillation.

In her they saw the divine immanent,

In the form of a sweet, holy scent.

She considered all living creatures her own.

Upon even a scratch on them, she did mourn.

She discarded none and cared for each men,

Whether they worshipped Allah or concluded their prayers saying Amen.

She is the heart that keeps us going,

She is the land from where we harvest almost everything,

She is the temple in which we feel safe and secure,

She is the Mother towards whom we get readily lured.

She is the highest form of a woman,

The still and unique source of strength of man.

She showers her blessings upon us,

Making our life as a garden of flowers.

Oh, Mother! In you I feel the comfort of heaven,

With you I do not fear even the tiger's den,

Bless me that I may feel the quintessence of God,

Bless me that I may feel the presence of the Lord.

Bless me, O Mother, bless me

O Thou, imperishable holy fragrance!

RE: Somik Dasgupta's poem

To witness such intensely beautiful devotion,
leaves one breathless.

The chaste lifestyles of the Master and His Consort,
had very much 'to do' with the eventual success of
the Ramakrishna Order.

It gave these young men the needed strength, to adopt a life of non-attachment to the material world.

In other words, without the superhuman wisdom and sacrifices of little Saradamani of Jayrambati,
we most probably would never have known the Blessed Words of Sri Ramakrishna......

Without the strong 'backing' of the Holy Mother, His Sweet Words could have dried up and blown away in the hot winds of Mother India....
