Reminiscences of The Holy Mother!!!

The brain has some extremely fine nerves, the slightest damage to which spells destruction. Mother used to say, “You must pray to the Master that you may have a sound brain.” If one’s brain goes wrong, all is lost. Swamiji had said, “Shoot me if my brain goes wrong.”
Nowhere else is Mother (Durga) worshipped as well as at the Math. Our worship is inspired by genuine devotion, for it is free of desire. Our only aim is to please Mother. It was at Baranagore Math that Swamiji first worshipped Durga, though in those days puja had to be performed through the medium of a portrait and a pitcher. Once a goat gifted by Suresh Babu had been sacrificed, the entire goat having been offered as oblation at the sacrificial fire. This incident pained M. and some other devotees who spoke to Mother about it. Mother said, “Since it is causing them such distress, why not refrain from such sacrifice.” That put a stop to animal sacrifice subsequently. In this Math (Belur Math) too it was Swamiji who initiated the worship of Durga in a clay image. During the puja days, Mother stayed at Belur, in the rented house of Nilambar Babu. Mother had declared, “Mother Durga will come here every year positively.”
