Reminiscences of The Holy Mother!!!

THE HOLY MOTHER : OUR ETERNAL HAVEN - 06
SISTER NIVEDITA

I was able to find my way at once from the station to the north end of the town. But once there, with insular rigidity, I insisted on being made the guest of the women. The Swami was himself staying, as it happened, at a sort of parish-room of the Order in Calcutta. Through him, therefore, the negotiations were carried on. The widow of Sri Ramakrishna – Sarada Devi, or “the Holy Mother”, as she is called amongst is – was living close by, with her community of ladies; and in course of the day I was accorded possession of an empty room in her house. Note 2: Mother, along with other ladies, lived on the first floor of the rented house at 10/2 Bosepara Lane, her residence at that time. On the ground floor there were two rooms on either side of the entrance in one of which Mother’s attendant, Swami Yogananda, who was then ill, used to live. The other room was allotted to Nivedita for her residence. The ladies of the household, to whom Nivedita was still almost a stranger, also had a very conservative outlook. Besides, Nivedita would be comfortable if she had a room to herself. Considering all these circumstances, Mother had at first allotted a separate room for her. (Page 123)
