Mother As I Saw Her – Swami Saradeshananda
The feud between Nalini-Didi and Chhota-Mami – 01

It was rather late when the cooking was over today. After the food was offered in the shrine, the Mother called the boys for their lunch. They sat for their meal at one end of Baramama’s (elder uncle’s) portico in front of the kitchen. The portico adjoining the Mother’s room was now occupied by the Chhota-Mami (junior aunt) at one end and by Nalini-Didi at the other. They were busy arranging the presents that were to be sent to the homes of the fathers-in-law of Radhu and Maku respectively. The articles of presentation lay scattered everywhere, and the two were going in and out of the room with things to show mutually for inspection and remark. Chhota-Mami was the mother of Radhu, the pet girl of the Mother, and Nalini, who was a niece of the Mami on her husband’s side was almost of her own age. Maku was Nalini’s younger sister.
