Mother As I Saw Her – Swami Saradeshananda
The Uniqueness of the Mother’s Way of Initiation – 04

We have heard that the first person she initiated was Swami Yogananda, and that she did this at the instance of the Master himself. It took place during her first visit to Varanasi. It was after this that the stream of her mercy and compassion started flowing, purifying many a person. Many of the devotees who came for initiation were men directed by the senior Swamis of the Order, to whom these devotees had gone for spiritual instructions and whose goodwill and sympathy they secured. Several of the living householder disciples of the Mother would also send members of their family for initiation to the Mother. Several came to know her directly by chance and were blessed by her with initiation. We give below the way she gave initiation during the latter part of her life.
