Mother As I Saw Her – Swami Saradeshananda
Cases of the Mother giving Initiation without any Formalities – 01

A certain aged and old devotee had come one afternoon to have a Darsan of the Mother. Though he was a man of great honour and position in the locality, he was sitting below on a piece of mat on the floor of the Mother’s room, while the Mother was sitting on her cot. He was quietly reading to the Mother what he had written about the Master, and she too was listening to it making some remarks from time to time and explaining certain things to him. Sitting beside him, was his son of tender age. The boy was very good and devoted. He was listening to the talk between the Mother and his father with interest. The Mother was very much pleased with the boy and said so to his father. At this time the father spoke in praise of his good tendencies and religious temperament and, at the end, asked the Mother to bestow her grace on the boy. The Mother’s heart was full of compassion for the boy. She at once bestowed her grace on him, giving him initiation just as they were sitting! What she said and did was known to her alone. But what the others observed was that the boy was prostrating at her feet, his heart overflowing with divine emotion, while the father was standing before her with hands folded and eyes shedding tears of devotion.
