Mother As I Saw Her – Swami Saradeshananda
Cases of the Mother giving Initiation without any Formalities – 05

This informality born of her deep spiritual understanding was an important feature of her spiritual ministry. It is like the way of an experienced traveller who happens to meet another, a tyro in travelling, who has lost his way and is all confusion, anxiety and exhaustion. The experienced traveller will be at peace and with a few directions put the other on the right track. Such was the attitude of the Mother in her spiritual ministry – that attitude of an expert, of one who was sure of one’s ground. She had no need of a plethora of rites and rituals, which constitute the way of teachers who have no firm grasp on the goal, and who seek to generate faith in disciples through mystification. Whatever the Mother had to say to the ‘child’, she did so in simple, direct words. The kind affectionate note in her voice, her glance that directly touched the heart and her sweet words, were more than enough for him or her to be inspired with faith.
