Mother As I Saw Her – Swami Saradeshananda
The two phases of Mother and daughter in her – 3

The Mother was once very ill with Malaria at Jayrambati. Revered Sarat Maharaj, Yogin-Ma and Golap-Ma were hurrying from Calcutta with male and female attendants and two specialist doctors, the Homoeopath Kanjilal and the Allopath Satish Babu. As soon as news of their coming reached the Mother, she was filled with a great anxiety. The thought of the difficulties they were likely to be put to on the bad roads and the inhospitable countryside made her forget her own sufferings.

To the son who was with her, she was murmuring now and then, “How much Sarat must be suffering, coming all this distance with his stout body! And Yogin and Golap – how much trouble they too are undergoing!” And then she asked, “Well, my dear, why does Sarat take all this trouble to come?” He tried to set her mind at rest in various ways, just as one would do with an ignorant little girl. When the time of their arrival drew very near, the Mother became very restless. It had been decided that would take a hackney carriage from Vishnupur to Koalpara, and from there they would come on foot to Jayrambati. When they reached the Mother’s house, Sarat Maharaj waited in the outer room while Yogin-Ma and Golap-Ma went inside and stood by the Mother’s sick-bed.

The moment the Mother’s eyes fell on Yogin-Ma she complained to her in great sorrow, “Well, Yogin, why do you people take so much trouble to come all this distance?” Yogin-Ma too, with her eyes full of tears, said almost weeping, “We simply could not stay away from you from the time that we heard about your illness.” With proper medicines and care, the Mother recovered soon.
