Mother As I Saw Her – Swami Saradeshananda
The Mother as a Paramahamsa:
Mother’s Grace on uninitiated Disciples – 2

The consequences of the merits acquired in the past often operate in a way that puzzles the understanding of the ordinary matter-of-fact man. Many a fortunate man was the recipient of the sudden grace of the Mother. A certain young man known to us, was then studying Medicine in Calcutta. He was born in a Vaishnava family. He had heard about the Master and the Mother, and entertained a great regard for them. Though the desire to get initiated sometimes came to his mind, he had not yet decided where and from whom he would seek it. The idea of resorting to the family preceptor had no longer any appeal to him. One day a son of the Mother, who was well known to him, happened to meet him at the students’ mess. The former was on his way to Jayrambati to have the Mother’s Darsan. The moment our young friend, the medical student, heard about it, there grew suddenly in his mind a strong desire to accompany him to have the Mother’s Darsan and get initiation from her. Without paying any heed to anything else, he acted upon his impulse and had his desire of being initiated by the Mother fulfilled. He this made his life blessed. Gradually he experienced the unlimited grace of the Master and Mother. In later years the whole of his family took shelter at their feet.
