Mother As I Saw Her – Second Part
Swami Saradeshananda
8. The Mother’s Attitude towards Worldly Values – 5

Indiscriminate mixing with people and engaging in gossip with them, lead to one’s degeneration. The Mother always cautioned her children against this danger. One day she had sent a son to another village for some work. After finishing it, he spent a long time there, and when he returned to the Mother, she asked him the cause of his delay. From enquiry she came to know that the work on hand was over within a short time and for the rest of his stay, he was engaged in all kinds of talks with people there, courting some trouble for himself in the bargain. She was very sorry to hear of it. She firmly told him, “Whenever you go on some work, make it a point to return as soon as it is finished. You should be careful that in digging for earth-worms you are not going too deep and beinging out snakes.”
