Mother As I Saw Her – Second Part
Swami Saradeshananda
19. Sri Sarada Devi as the Daughter-Mother of her intimate Devotees – 1

Through the Leela that Sri Sarada Devi, the Mother of the Universe, played with Swami Saradananda Maharaj as ‘Mother and Daughter’ was beyond the understanding of our little mind and intellect, still we could not help being thrilled and illumined by the unique and pure love and devotion that characterised it. Calm and sedate like the deep ocean, and unshakable like the very Himalayas, Swami Saradananda Maharaj, the Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, was a highly honoured Sannyasin and a scholar of note. He would be seen sitting at the threshold of the Mother’s house at Jayrambati as an ordinary villager, mixing equally with the young and the old there, enjoying a smoke of raw tobacco and joining them in their talks and merriments. He enjoyed, too, the simple repast and facilities that the village home provided.
