Early Life - 04
About a hundred families lived at Jayarambati, in mud huts with thatched roofs. Besides two Brahmin families, the village had families of barbers, blacksmiths, farmers, dairymen, and manual labourers. A children’s school held its classed on the porch of a temple. Religious festivals, performances of religious plays, and recitals from Hindu mythology brought relief from the monotony of their daily routine. There are several small temples at Jayarambati, the chief one being dedicated to Simhavahihi, an aspect of the Divine Mother represented as riding on a lion, who is the patron deity of the village. People from neighbouring village villages often worship in these temples.
