Marriage and After – 05
After his marriage Sri Ramakrishna spent about two years at Kamarpukur. During this period, in December 1960, when Sarada was seven years old, he paid a short visit to Jayrambati. Recollecting an incident of that time, Sarada said many years later that one day, of her own accord, she washed her husband’s feet and fanned him. The other girls made fun of this and teased her. She also remembered that Hriday, Sri Ramakrishna’s nephew, 1 (1 The son of Sri Ramakrishna’s sister, and his companion and attendant for many years.) sought her out and to her great embarrassment worshipped her feet with flowers.
Shortly after, Sri Ramakrishna went back to Kamarpukur with Sarada. In a few days he returned to Calcutta, and, forgetting all about his marriage and his wife, plunged once more into the practice of spiritual disciplines. Sarada, on her part, returned to her parent’s home and resumed her duties in the family.
