Sri Ramakrishna was full of wit. Recalling a delightful incident, Sarada once said: ‘At Kamarpukur Lakshmi’s mother and I prepared the meals. She was a better cook then I. One day the Master and Hriday were taking their meal. He tasted the food prepared by my sister-in-law and said in praise: “This has been made by a real cook.” He compared her to an expert physician. Tasting what I had cooked he said: “The one who has prepared this is a quack.” “That may be” said Hriday, “but the quack will always be at your service, even ready to give you a massage. All that you have to do is to summon him. But the expert physician is very expensive; he is not always available. People first consult the quack; he is always your friend.” “That is true,” the Master replied, smiling.’
