First Visit to Dakshineswar – 11

Sri Ramakrishna often put Sarada’s spiritual yearning to test. Though she spent the whole day at the Nahabat, she returned at night to the Master’s room to sleep. One night, finding her alone, he asked her: ‘Tell me if you have come here to drag me down the road leading to the worldly life.’ ‘Certainly not,’ she replied without a moment’s hesitation. ‘Why should I drag you to the world? I am here to help you to realize your spiritual ideal.’ Sarada, too, one day asked Sri Ramakrishna, as she was stroking his feet: ‘How do you regard me?’ He replied: ‘The Mother who is worshipped in the temple, and the mother who gave birth to this [pointing to his body] and is now living in the Nahabat – the same mother is now stroking my feet. Really and truly I always regard you as the embodiment of the blissful Mother of the Universe.’
