First Visit to Dakshineswar – 13

For eight long months Sri Ramakrishna and Sarada spent their nights together. Her mind, too, like her husband’s, constantly soared to a higher plane. Neither had the slightest desire for physical enjoyment. Many days later; referring to his wife’s innate purity, Sri Ramakrishna said to his disciples: ‘If she had not been completely pure, if she had forgotten herself and made physical demands on me, then would not I, too, have lost self-control and brought my mind down to the physical level? Who can tell? After my marriage I eagerly prayed to the Divine Mother: “O Mother, please remove even a trace of lust from my wife’s mind.” That my prayer was literally fulfilled I came to know when I lived with her.’
