Holy Mother By Swami Nikhilananda: 093

In The March of Events – 05

After taking a short rest, she would sit on the steps of the Nahabat, when the sun’s light fell there for a while and nobody was around, to sun her hair. By that time it would be three o’clock. She would then trim the lamps for the evening, burn incense before her altar and meditate. Sri Ramakrishna always insisted on daily meditation, morning and evening. Then came the cooking of the evening meal. After feeding Sri Ramakrishna, and his mother as long as she was alive, Sarada took her own supper and then retired to bed about eleven o’clock. Her greatest difficulty was to answer the call f nature. No latrine was provided for her. She used the jungle on the bank of the Ganges for the purpose. It was a real problem daytime when people were around. If she felt the urge at that time, she would control it till evening and pray to the Lord to spare her the embarrassment. She thus developed intestinal trouble.
