When Golap-Ma first visited the Master he asked her one day to bring his food. From that time she carried it every day. This prevented Sarada Devi from seeing her husband at meal times. Golap-ma often spent long hours in the evening in the Master’s room and would not have returned to Sarada Devi even by ten o’clock. Sarada Devi had to wait for a long while with Golap-Ma’s meal. This annoyed her and one day the Master heard her remark: ‘Let this food be eaten by a dog or a cat. I cannot look after it any more.’ The next day the Master said to Golap-Ma: ‘You spend a long time here. This inconveniences her. She has to keep her eyes on your food.’ ‘No, no.’ Golap-ma said. ‘Mother loved me very much and regards me as her own daughter. She calls me by my first name.’
