The preparation of Sri Ramakrishna’s diet became a real problem, and the devotees discussed the idea of bringing Sarada Devi to Shyampukur. But the house had no quarters where she could have privacy. When Sri Ramakrishna was told of the situation, he reminded the disciples of Sarada Devi’s natural bashfulness and said: ‘Will she be able to live here? You had better ask her about it. If, after knowing all the facts, she is willing to come, let her do so.’ Remembering her husband’s precept to suit one’s conduct and action to the time and circumstances, she brushed aside the inconvenience of living in a cramped space and arrived at Shyam-pukur. Immediately she devoted herself to Sri Ramakrishna’s service.
