The Masters Death and After – 08

Though things were better organized at Cossipore than at Dakshineswar or Shyampukur, Sarada Devi had little respite from hard work. She had to do a great deal cooking and had to supervise the Master’s midday and evening meals. One day she was carrying a heavy vessel of milk up the stairs when she became dizzy and fainted. One of her legs was badly sprained and for a few days she was confined to her room. The Master humorously asked Baburam, a young disciple,1 (1 A foremost monastic disciple of Sri Ramakrishna who was later known as Swami Premananda.) by a sign of the hand, as he could hardly talk on account of the ailment in his throat, to bring her to the room at meal time, if necessary, in a basket. In order to identify her he made a circle with a finger suggesting her nose-ring. Sri Ramakrishna felt slightly better at Cossipore for about a fortnight. Then his condition began to deteriorate. His tall, stout body was reduced to mere skeleton. Sarada Devi used to clean the sore with a wick and remove the pus.
