The Masters Death and After – 17

One day, shortly after, he was seated leaning against the pillow, without uttering a word. Sarada Devi was sent for, He said to her in a whisper: ‘I do not know why mind nowadays remains constantly absorbed in Brahman.’ She understood and shed a few silent tears.

The final day arrived. It was August 16, 1886. Looking at Sarada Devi, who entered the room with Lakshmi, he said: ‘I am glad you are here. I feel as if I am going to a faraway country across the water – very far away.’ Sarada Devi burst into tears. ‘Why should you feel troubled?’ Sri Ramakrishna consoled her. ‘You will live as you are living now,’ he said. ‘They [referring to Narendra and the other disciples] will do for you what they are doing for me. Look after Lakshmi and keep her with you.’ These were his last words to Sarada Devi in his physical body.
