The Masters Death and After – 22
After about a week after the cremation of Sri Ramakrishna’s body, Holy Mother1 (1 From now on it will be appropriate to refer to Sarada Devi as Holy Mother, an epithet by which she has ever since been cherished by her devotees and disciples and by those of Sri Ramakrishna as well) at the earnest invitation of Balaram Bose, left the Cossipore garden house and went to his residence. The vessel containing the Master’s ashes was also carried there and daily worshipped as his visible presence. Naturally Holy Mother’s grief was boundless. Referring to her state of mind at that time, she remarked later: ‘After his passing away my sorrow became unbearable. Again and again I said to myself: “Such a golden man has gone away; why should I stay behind?” I did not relish anything and shunned people’s company.’
