Holy Mother continued to live at Kamarpukur, fighting poverty, loneliness, and the criticism of the villagers. Now and then visions of Sri Ramakrishna sustained her and gave glimpses of her future mission. Narrating one of these visions, she said later: ‘I was alone at Kamarpukur. One day I said to myself: “I have no children. There is no one this world to call my own. What will happen to me?” Then the Master appeared to me and said: “Well, you are thinking of children. I have left you so many of them, all jewels. In the course of time you will hear many, many people addressing you as Mother.”’
