Chapter 12 – Spiritual Ministry : 022
Holy Mother’s love for her disciples was not just like the love an earthly mother feels for her children. It was much deeper. Once a monastic disciple asked her: ‘How do you regard us?’
Mother: ‘As God Himself.’
Disciple: ‘But we are your children. If you think of us as god, you cannot regard us as your children.’
Mother: ‘I regard you as God and also as children.’
Another disciple asked her: ‘I address you as “Mother.” I want to know whether you are my own mother.’
Mother: ‘What else am I? I am your own mother.’
Disciple: ‘That’s what you say. But I cannot understand it well. Why can’t I feel for you the same way as I do for the mother who gave birth to my body?’
Holy Mother: ‘Ah, how true it is.’ Then she added: ‘It is God, my child, who is our father and mother. He himself has become our parents. The love they show is God’s love.’
