In 1916 Holy Mother went to the Belur Math to attend the worship of Durga. On the second day of the worship many devotees saluted her by touching her feet. Afterwards it was noticed that she was washing her feet time and again with Ganges water. ‘What are you doing?’ Warned Yogin-Ma. ‘You will catch cold.’ The Mother replied: ‘How shall I explain it to you? When some persons touch my feet I feel as if my body has been set on fire. Ganges water alone refreshes me.’ One day she suffered excruciating pain from the touch of the devotees and said to Swami Arupananda: ‘This is why I fall ill. Tell the devotees to salute me from a distance. But do not mention this to Sarat, otherwise he will not allow them to salute me at all.’
