New School Rides & Old School Friends by K. Peddlar Bridges (RHP)

A New Year's Wish For 2009!
From K. Peddlar Bridges.
Senior Columnist and
Bikerpoet Laureate.

.................................
New School Rides and
Old School Friends
................................

Now, I like those New School Rides
With their Bobber Fenders and Custom Tanks
With their near Kelsey Martin paint
And tricked out front ends.

But, when it comes to Brothers and Sisters
I still like my Old School Friends ...

Because when an Old School Friend
Comes knocking at the door
At 2 AM and tells ya ...
Their mate gave them the toss,
And your mate hollers, "They can't stay here!"
You both leave ... Looking for a place to stay.

Because when an Old School Friend calls at 3 AM
And tells ya they're broke down on the Road,
You don't say
"I have to be to work in the morning."
You just ask, "Where?"
And add, "I'm on my way."

Because an Old School Friend can call ya ...
From anywhere - anytime
And ask ya to call
Their landlord, their boss, or their wife,
And explain they're hung up - out on the road.
And you'd never ask - Why? Or How?
Just the number to call ...

And you'd never tell an Old School Friend,
"They can't come over, cause you have
Family, Friends or Guest."

Because Old School Friends are always -
Family, Friends, and Guests.

And you'd never say to an Old School friend ...
"When it comes to business ...
There is no such thing as friends."

Because if you can't deal with them
Open and Honest ...
They're not Old School Friends.

And if they show 'd up
Just as you had to leave ...
You'd just toss them your keys
And say, "I'll be back."

Cause, you know, they know, the same as you ...
An Old School Friend would never ask for anything
They didn't really need, or they could do
For themselves at that time.
And, they'd never ask for anything
They didn't deserve,
Or wouldn't give if they could ...
Because they would ...

Because they're Old School Friends.

Now, I like those New School Rides
With their Bobber Fenders and Custom Tanks
With their near Kelsey Martin paint
And tricked out front ends.

But, when it comes to Brothers and Sisters.
I still like my Old School Friends.

.................

Best Wishes for the New Year and may 2009 increase your number of Old School Friends. I would like to add a THANK YOU here to: Bob The Indian and Rosalie, Cousin Joey and Sheila, Lizzard and Meagan, and my late Old School Friend Bobby Triumph and his wife Mary, for helping me write this poem over the past thirty years.
