1st Engineer Bn was located in Danang, across from China Beach, next to Naval Hospital. I was with Bravo Co which was assigned to support the 5th Mariner Regiment at An Hoa. Spent all of 1968 and part of 1970 in Vietnam, most of it in the Arizona, Phu Loc 6, Liberty Bridge and on the road sweep between the bridge and Ah Hoa before the daily supply convoy came thru. I also spent about 2 months with a team that built 4 fire support bases in the mountains someplace to support an operation and than 4 week with the 51st ARVN Recon.......that was a treat. I\'ve heard a lot about the 7th Engineers and you all should be proud of your service. Semper Fi my brothers.

Hey All, Was just sitting around the table talking to my father about how he was injured in Vietnam. It was October of 1969, their position was overrun and a mortar pit was compromised and blew up. He was very sick with dysentery and the only one sleeping in a hammock. He feel like that is what saved his live. Everyone else perished. He was injured by shrapnel and got shot in the hip, and ultimately medivaced out in a Chinook. He ended up in a hospital in Japan. Does anyone know of any other survives from this event? Or does anyone have any information?

I went to vietnam in 1966 with the 9th eng battalion landing in Chu-Lai. From there I was sent to Phu-Bai by the air strip up there and ran mine sweeps from there. Then was sent to DaNang b company and was at Andersons trail from there on(1967-1967) We lost our gunny out there plus had many good men wounded and lost there. I need to to hear from anyone who was there during those times.

I arrived in country in June of 1968 and left in May 1969. For the first few weeks and the last few weeks I was assigned to the battalion aid station but the majority of the time I was assigned to elements of Alpha and Bravo companies involved in the construction of the Da Nang barrier. In addition to 7th Engineer personnel, these workgroups included detachments from a couple of USN construction battalions and a whole lot of marines assigned TAD from other units to do the grunt work. At one point in the project when we were working near Hoi An there were even some South Korean marines with us.

I have forgotten so many names from that period but some that I do remember from the 7th Eng include LT Anderson (who I believe was later seriously wounded), LT Bestor Cram, SSGT Grimes, SGT Hood, SGT Clint Waggle, HM2 Charlie Shumway, HM3 Gary Ehrlich, HM3 Groux and HM3 Gillespi. Aside from Clint Waggle from Akron, OH who I reconnected with a couple of years ago I have not had any contact with anyone from that period but have often wondered what became of them.
