The Family MacRae is the saga of an American family in three part. In Part-1 John MacRae graduates from West Point, serves in the US Calvary and ends uo in Deadwood, South Dakota. In part-2 John MacRae's son and daughter become involved with the mob in Chicago and Milwaukee in the 1920's. In Part-3 John MacRae's great grandson runs for and becomes the 47th president in 2024.
This is the kind of story that would only be made if it were true non-fiction. Especially with the grandson becoming the 47th President of the U.S.
If it were to be made as fiction it would need to have believable elements that could have been true in general based on how people lived back then but it would have to stay away from any true events that only happened to specific people in history.
Think of epics like 'How The West Was Won'. Inspired by real life history but nothing as specific like somebody becoming President. Or even the current tv stuff like "Yellowstone". It has a true feel to it but it is fiction. If it were to mix in stuff like who became President or Governor it would mess up people's knowledge of real history and it would not be successful.
