I didn't know Susan had attended an Emmy awards show, either. However, this was around the time she had appeared in two TV movies -- "Heat of Anger" and "Say Goodbye, Maggie Cole" -- and since she probably thought one could end up being a series for her, it makes sense that she would attend this show.
I never read anywhere whether one or both would have turned into a series for Susan, but with her health decline, it was not to be. That was TV's and our loss.
