The Lady, The Legend: Susan Hayward On Her Centennial Year. When I really noticed her It was at the start Of her role as Jane Froman in With A Song In My Heart. From that time on In happiness or sorrow Susie made sure that I'll (not) Cry Tomorrow. As The President's Lady She fit Andrew fine But she could have played his role Her ambition was like mine. Susie had a strength Rarely seen in gals you meet She went for what she wanted Like the designer in Back Street. Ambitious, yes, she was But she showed time and again That she could be a homebody As she was in Lusty Men. There were some minor films Till being noticed in Beau Geste After that, no stopping Sue Who quickly showed her best. Like the gal she played in Ada She went right to the top But unlike her contemporaries No way could she be stopped. Four Oscar nominations Till I Want To Live And on the fifth they gave her The best they had to give. She did Climb the Highest Mountain But more films were yet to come I counted almost sixty A most impressive sum. These days, in Stolen Hours I sit at the TV Watching all her films That mean so much to me. She was a Woman Obsessed And as long as films survive The redhead will be with us She'll always be alive. With much love and thanks to one of the greats on June 30th, 2017, her 100th birthday.
So lovely, Gloria, and also so glad to hear from you.
