I was wondering which series on Maa to start next and thought of sharing passages from the book written by another child of our beloved and most compassionate Maa... Though outwardly she lived a life of common housewife, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi stands very tall among the great women of modern times. An embodiment of infinite love and deep concern, she was held in great reverence by anyone who met her even once. Her simple life was a shining example how to live a divine and pure life. Sri Ramakrishna left her behind to demonstrate the ideal of Motherhood in its diverse aspects. She was mother of all – rich and poor, educated and illiterate, saints and sinners, all. No wonder, she was a perennial source of inspiration, particularly to all women.
This Math has already published two eminently written biographies of Holy Mother – one by Swami Gambhirananda (the 11th President of the Ramakrishna Order) and another by Swami Tapasyananda (Vice President of the Ramakrishna Order). The outstanding feature of the following biography lies in the fact that it was written by Swami Nikhilananda who was initiated into spiritual life by Holy Mother herself. Besides, this book comes from the facile pen of Swami Nikhilananda whose English translation of the Kathamrita (The Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna), major Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita and a host of original works such as lives of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda have received wide literary acclaim.
Swami Nikhilananda was the founder and Head of Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre, New York, USA from 1933 to until his passing away in 1973.
We are glad to bring out the first Indian Edition of his book The Holy Mother which was originally published by Ramakrishna Vivekananda Centre, New York, USA. We are grateful to them for granting exclusive rights for publication and circulation of this book in India. The copyright of the book, however, is retained by them.
We are sure this edition will carry the freshness and holiness of Mother’s extraordinary life to a greater number of her children – known and unknown.
